Saturday night on our very own Live Show it was announced West Virginia kayak fishing is about to take it to the next level. Mountain State Kayak Anglers (MSKA), West Virginia Kayak Anglers (WVKA), and Southern West Virginia Kayak Anglers (SWVKA) have all came together for 2022 to put on what will be the biggest kayak tournament in the state in 2022.

Jason Plumley from SWVKA, Greg Kupfner from WVKA and Coy Lehman from MSKA announced Saturday that the 3 trails will be coming together to host The 2022 West Virginia State Championship on October 15th where all 3 clubs will come together. Each club will be sending their respective Top 12 in total angler of the year points to the tournament. Roll downs will be used through each club until they each fill 12 anglers.

“Our main goal was to try to do something big for WV Kayak Anglers because they do deserve it,” Coy said after announcing the tournament.

The location of the tournament has not yet been decided. What is exciting about this tournament is that no one will know the location of the tournament until the Monday before the tournament. They believe this will create a more equal playing field along with no time to pre-fish the location.

Entry fee will be $50 a person with a 36-angler field, half of that pot will go towards the individual club winner and the other half of the pot will go towards the winner of The 2022 West Virginia State Championship. The winner will walk out with $1,200!

Even though the tournament wasn’t organized until early December the clubs said they have had a ton of support for this event.

“Jason, Greg and I have a lot of support behind us help put this thing together,” Coy said.

The event is surely one of a kind and Jason Plumley claims that he has “never heard of another state that has done this.”
