The 2023 Mid-State and Northside Auto Marshall Fishing Cup presented by Josh Workman with Best Virginia Heating and Cooling is exactly one week from kicking off. The best anglers from around West Virginia will take on Summersville Lake to compete for the 5th annual Marshall Fishing Cup and one of the states most prestigious titles this October 28th and 29th.

“This is tournament is really everything,” said Team President Bailey McKinney. “To have the best 42 teams around the state compete over the course of two days in what we feel like is the most equal playing at Summersville, you can’t really ask for much more. Seems like every Cup we have had here, you are always surprised with who ends up in the Top 10.”

Summersville Arena will play host for the 2023 Marshall Fishing Cup as weigh-ins will take place there at 4:40 P.M. both Saturday and Sunday. The arena will be open for the first ever Marshall Fishing Cup Swap Meet and Expo starting 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday and 11:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M. on Sunday. There will be a host of vendors there in attendance as well as concession.

“We are so excited for this opportunity to get to weigh fish inside an arena. This our way of giving back to the anglers who have supported us all year and a way we can support fishing throughout the state,” said McKinney. “We will have the Nicholas County High School Fishing Team there to help volunteer with the event and half of all the proceeds will go towards them.”

All four previous Cup winning teams will be attendance and competing in the event next Saturday and Sunday. Lee Hess and Josh Miller who won in 2019 will look to take back the title in 2023 along Kenny McSweeney and Randall Fields who won in 2020. 2021 Cup Champions Bill Shelton and James Pack are hopeful of winning again on their home waters, while Cody Huddleston and Zach Horrocks look to defend their title after winning in 2022.

“What a stacked field we have,” says McKinney. “Out of the 43 qualified teams, we ended up with 42 teams and that is the best turnout we have had in Cup history. It’s also going to be pretty awesome to have all four previous Cup winning teams there.”

Takeoffs are set to begin at 8:00 A.M. at the Summersville Marina both days and the anglers will return from fishing at 4:00 P.M. in the afternoons. For more information about the tournament please visit the Marshall University Fishing Team Facebook page here.
